So you’re going to Fashion Week, huh? Whether it’s the upcoming New York edition, next week’s London edition, or the Paris edition down the line, you’re in for a wild ride. Of course, there’s tons to see and do during Fashion Week — runway shows, presentations, previews, showrooms, fellow influencers, brunches, press events, and full-blown ragers. If it’s your first stint, you’d better arrive prepared or you won’t last a day. If it’s not your first stint, you’d still better arrive prepared or you won’t last a day.
Here’s our comprehensive blogger’s guide to surviving fashion week. Good luck!
Obviously, a huge part of fashion week is the fashion. Not just on the runway, either; in today’s digital landscape, the street style is just as important and influential. So collect all your outfit inspiration photos, pull all the quirkier attire out from the back of your closet, and get to planning what you’ll wear for each day at the tents. In our experience, footwear is the most important factor to consider since it can either make or break both your outfit and mobility. Bring along your most comfortable heels, fashionable sneakers, or a pair of foldable flats to sneak on when everyone’s up and left and no one is looking!
Fashion week is fun, but first and foremost, it’s a super-charged opportunity to drive your business. Some absolutely essential tools include your phone, camera, their respective chargers, and business cards. They’ll be life-savers for things like laying out your schedule, taking notes, creating content, and keeping in touch with new contacts. If you’re traveling out of your own country, make sure you also get a data plan with your service provider in case you need to make updates on the fly!
Food is something that’s easy to forget about during the hustle and bustle of fashion week. If you’ve got events back to back, it can be a challenge to squeeze in a real meal. Skipping out on eating is a big no-no, especially if you need all the energy you can get to run around the city in heels, mingling with potential clients and blogger buds. Pre-plan your restaurant destinations beforehand, and always keep snacks in your bag to tide you over if need be. Granola bars are our personal fave — they’re compact but rammed with carbs (read: energy)!
Full disclosure: you may not get a lot of sleep and you may be drinking steadily throughout your days. You need to otherwise make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep your immune system up to par. It’s key to fashion week survival. Hydrate even more so than standard; not just with water, but with cold-pressed juices and electrolyte-rich drinks like coconut water. Vitamin supplements may also be a good idea! At the end of the week, be sure you save a day to relax and reset before jumping back into your normal routine.
