Announcing Sidebuy’s Involvement with Dress for Success Vancouver

We are thrilled to announce our involvement with our favorite charity, Dress For Success Vancouver.

Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization supporting unprivileged women to break the poverty cycle by providing them with business attire, career consulting and training programs.

Mona Akhavi, the founder and director at Sidebuy, is a female entrepreneur who strongly believes that every woman has the right to realize her potential. While living in Toronto, she was an active advocate for Dress for Success, and when she moved to Vancouver, she wanted to continue her support and give back to her community.

Dress for Success helps women in low-income families to secure jobs by providing them with business attire and the necessary guidance and expertise they need. In our meeting with Christina Florencio, the marketing and sponsorship manager at DFS, she mentioned that DFS Vancouver have service over 20,000 low-income women in the Lower Mainland since 1999 providing consultation and training to help them get back on their feet.

“Dress for Success is more than just the suits” As Jennifer Halinda, the executive director at DFS added during our meeting. It is about empowering these women every step of the way until they are fully independent. Women giving back to women is the premise that Dress for Success is founded upon, and this is why we have chosen this charity as our primary channel to give back to our community.

It was a delight meeting with Jennifer and Christina, the ladies behind DFS Vancouver, and listening to their inspiring success stories about unprivileged women who secured jobs through DFS. As they mentioned most of these women come back and help the organization as mentors and volunteers to give back.

Through Dress for Success, women can donate their lightly used business attire to unprivileged women to wear for their job interviews. Also, by donating money, they can assist these women to get access to experts who guide them throughout their career advancements.
